Privacy at Pace

How Pace uses information to provide revision planning and family features.

Email Pace about privacy or safety

The short version

Pace is a revision planner intended for people aged 13 and over. Your study history stays private unless you choose a family-sharing option. Joining a family does not turn those options on. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or make school, employment or other important decisions about you.

Who looks after your information

Redclan Ventures Ltd is the controller responsible for Pace. Our address is 55 The Grove, Baildon, Shipley, BD17 5ND, United Kingdom. For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email alec@syntheticceo.com. You do not need to use legal words. Our ICO registration is ZC118367; registration is not an ICO approval of the app.

What we collect

We use your email, chosen first name, account role and sign-in details to operate your account. For revision, we save the subjects and papers you choose, dates, targets, timezone, study-session times and durations, optional topic names and confidence ratings. We calculate private planning feedback, XP, streaks and achievements from those records.
If you use family features, we record invitations, family membership, your sharing choices, the age band you declare and a dated consent record. We also process limited technical and security information such as IP addresses and request metadata. If you contact us, we keep the information needed to handle your request. Please do not put health information, identity documents or other sensitive personal details in topic names or support messages unless we specifically need them.

Why we use it

We rely on legitimate interests to provide the private planner you request, save and sync your work, secure accounts, manage requested family invitations and handle support or safety concerns. We assess those interests against your rights and young people's best interests. Email and study setup are needed for the corresponding account and planning functions; topic text and confidence ratings are optional.
Each optional family purpose uses your separate consent: sharing a progress summary with connected parents, appearing in the family league, and receiving fixed parent encouragement. Each starts off. Declining or withdrawing leaves your private study tools available. A declared age of 13 or over is needed for these choices. This declaration is not proof of age; if you declare under 13, the sharing choices stay off and you can contact us to correct a mistake.
Where a specific law requires information, we use only what that duty needs. We do not treat a general claim about safety as permission to keep everything.

Who can see your information

Our authorised operators and service providers can access information only as needed to run, secure and support Pace. DigitalOcean hosts the service and managed database in London. Resend delivers account and invitation emails and stores its email data in the United States. Our support email service handles messages you send us. These providers can use authorised subprocessors.
Family members can see basic family names and membership. Only connected parents can see your study summary, and only if you enable that option. Family league participants, including siblings, can see the league fields you choose to share by joining the league. Read the Family sharing page for the exact fields and controls. We may disclose necessary information to authorities where law requires it or to protect someone from a serious threat; we assess the purpose and legal basis first.

International processing

London hosting does not mean all processing stays in the UK. Email delivery, support and provider subprocessors can involve other countries, including the United States. Provider data-processing agreements include safeguards for restricted transfers, including the UK Addendum to standard contractual clauses and, where applicable and valid, the UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework. Email alec@syntheticceo.com to ask about the safeguards applying to your information or obtain a copy, with confidential information removed where necessary.

Storage on your device

Pace uses device or browser storage needed for sign-in, preferences and queued offline study sessions. It uses no advertising cookies or third-party behavioural analytics in this release. Shared devices can expose saved information to other people using that device. Sign out when finished and clear Pace's local storage or app data if you are handing the device to someone else. Deleting a server account cannot remotely erase an offline device copy.

Retention, rights and changes

We keep account and study information while it is needed for your active account, and remove linked study records when you delete that account. Operational records have shorter expiry rules. Backups and providers have separate deletion windows; see How long information is kept and Delete your Pace account for the details.
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability where applicable, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw family consent in the app. You can complain to us or to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. A parent does not automatically get access to a young person's records merely by asking. See Your privacy rights for the process.
We update these notices when the service or its processing changes. A new purpose or new family recipient requires a new applicable choice before optional sharing resumes.
